Prachi Desai is an Indian Film and Television actress. She started her television career as lead role Bani in Ekta Kapoor’s TV drama Kasam Se on Zee TV. She made her Bollywood debut in the 2008 film Rock On!! with Farhan Akhtar. Her other notable features include Life Partner (2009) stars Govinda, Fardeen Khan, Tusshar Kapoor, Genelia D’Souza, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai (2010) features Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Randeep Hooda., Bol Bachchan (2012) stars Abhishek Bachchan, Ajay Devgn and I, Me Aur Main (2013) features John Abraham and Chitrangada Singh. But post 2016, the actress went missing from the big screen. After 4 years, Prachi is back with all new projects for theatrical and OTT release.
Talking about the gap, Prachi said, “The gap in my work was not a conscious one. From the beginning, I’ve been a bit of a game-changer – I landed a TV show as the leading lady when I was just out of high school, and then, I debuted in films with Rock On!! when I was freshly out of TV. It was all early on in my career and it was rare for someone to get these opportunities so quickly. But even then, I worked on my own terms and I am still like that. Yes, I know that a lot of people want to be visible, but I have not played by that rule. There are various reasons I was not exactly on the radar. I didn’t realise where time flew; it passed by quickly. When I look back, I realise how big the gap has been.”
Prachi also revealed the reason why she refused big project, She said, “I never wanted to work in films that are sexist. And in this industry, I have fought with this notion for a long time. All that people wanted me to be was “hot”. How does a woman only get defined by that? Why is it that everyone wants to change a woman’s imagery, regardless of who or how she is? The feedback I got from several male producers and directors was that I had to work on being hot. So, I picked less work and I chose to stay away. I said no to some big, but very sexist films.”
Almost after 4 years, Prachi will be returning back to the silver screen with Zee 5 film Silence – Can You Hear It? starring Manoj Bajpai, Arjun Mathur, Sahil Vaid and Vaquar Sheikh. She will also be seen in the lead role in Kosha – A dark urban tale fantasy.
