Stree 2, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2018 hit, continues to captivate audiences and dominate the box office. As of Day 16, the film has amassed a staggering ₹440.8 crore in domestic earnings, including an impressive ₹7.75 crore on its sixteenth day alone, according to early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk.
Directed by Amar Kaushik and featuring a stellar cast including Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, Stree 2 has not only surpassed the lifetime collections of several recent blockbusters like Gadar 2 and Jawan but has also achieved the second-highest second-week collections in Bollywood history, trailing only behind Baahubali 2: The Conclusion.
The film’s success can be attributed to strong word-of-mouth and strategic release timing. Released on August 15, Stree 2 has maintained a solid presence in theaters, showcasing over 4,000 shows across India on its third Friday, with an overall occupancy of 17.25%.
In terms of global performance, Stree 2 has grossed approximately ₹650 crore worldwide, solidifying its position as the second-biggest hit of the year, following Kalki 2898 AD, which has crossed the ₹1000 crore mark.
As the weekend approaches, industry experts predict that Stree 2 will continue to perform well, with no major releases to compete against.
The two releases from this week, A Wedding Story and Pad Gaye Pange, are almost going unnoticed, with the former receiving a lukewarm response and the latter being absent from post-release publicity on websites due to content embargoes continuing on its lead actor, Samarpan Singh.
However, A Wedding Story has received decent 3-star reviews on certain websites. Vaibhav Tatwawadi doesn’t look like a typical Hindi film hero, and the supporting cast, including Mukti Mohan, Akshay Anand, and Monica Chaudhary, offer average performances.
Meanwhile, Stree 2’s unique blend of horror and comedy, coupled with strong performances, has resonated with audiences, making it a standout success in the current cinematic scenario. Samarpan Singh
